Payment methods and account balance

Hologram accounts are billed from a prepaid account balance that can be filled with a credit card on file. Your account balance works like a debit card, and you can add funds to your account at any time or set up auto-refill to automatically add funds when your balance is low. Contracted accounts can also work with our sales team to set up monthly invoicing and pay using a bank account.

How do SIM billing periods work?

The billing period for each SIM is 30 days, beginning from the time that SIM is activated. At the beginning of the SIM’s billing period, Hologram renews the data plan and charges a monthly recurring charge (MRC) to the organization’s account balance. As long as there is a remaining balance in your account, your device’s service will automatically renew at the end of a billing period. If your account balance cannot cover the cost of renewing a device’s data plan, you will receive an email notification 24 hours before the end of the billing period.

How is data usage charged?

Data usage for each SIM is is charged as you use it, based on the data plan selected for the SIM. Your account is charged at the end of each closed data session, and data usage is charged per kilobyte. Our minimum charge is $0.25. Sessions with under $0.25 of data usage will aggregate until they reach the minimum charge threshold. Organizations with monthly invoicing are charged for data usage at the end of each month.

Pay as you go data plans

For pay as you go data plans, all data usage in the plan is charged at the rates specified in the plan.
Caution: If your account balance reaches zero, we may pause your SIMs without warning. To prevent this from happening, we suggest configuring auto-refill.

Included data plans

Included data plans have a set amount of included data that is prepaid at the beginning of a billing period. Prepaid data is included in the monthly recurring charge at the beginning of the SIM’s unique 30-day billing period. After using all data included in the plan, data usage is charged at the overage rate in real time like pay as you go sessions.

Data pools

Fixed size (static) data pool plans do not draw from account balance and are billed directly on the 1st of the month from a credit card on file. You can read more about the breakdown of charges here.

SMS charges

We only charge for outbound SMS messages originating from a device, at a flat rate per outbound SMS message. Please visit https://www.hologram.io/pricing/ for our current prices. Inbound SMS messages and TCP/UDP messages sent via our Hologram Cloud API are always free.
