What types of data plans does Hologram offer?

Pay as you go plans

We’ve found pay as you go plans to be the most flexible and appropriate payment method for most use cases. Pay only for the data you use, as you use it. Data usage is charged by the kilobyte after each data session closes.

Included data plans

Included data plans are a great option for fleets with predictable usage patterns that don’t often change, or if you have a fixed monthly budget for data usage. You pay a fixed monthly fee for a preset amount of data per SIM, included in your SIM’s monthly recurring charge. Any usage beyond the included allowance is charged at an overage rate. Paired with data usage limits, included data plans can ensure your devices don’t exceed your budget and stay within your control.
Limited access: Included data plans are available to organizations with qualifying fleets or data usage. To learn more, contact our sales team.

Data pools

Data pools are a great option for fleets with mixed or unpredictable usage patterns. These plans create a pool of data that is shared across all SIMs in your fleet. Any usage beyond the included allowance is then charged at an overage rate. We see data pools as a great way to optimize your total cost and smooth out usage spikes. If your fleet size does not change often, fixed size data pools, sometimes known as static data pools, let you set a fixed amount of data for your fleet to use each month. This amount doesn’t change and lets you budget your data usage. If your fleet size adjusts regularly, dynamic data pools let you set a fixed amount of data per SIM that is added to a shared pool across your entire fleet. This is the most flexible option and allows you to adjust your data usage as your fleet grows or shrinks.

How can I pay for data usage?

Data usage payment methods

  • Pay as you go for data you use, as you use it, billed by the kilobyte.
  • Prepay for data monthly with included data plans or data pools. Available to qualifying organizations.

Data usage rates

Data usage is charged per KB to your account balance after your SIM stops transmitting data, when a data session closes. Hologram offers two types of data usage rating:

Flat rate

Our standard data plans offer Flat rate pricing for data usage. This means you pay a fixed rate for all data usage on a data plan.

Network-level billing

Network-level billing (NLB) is available to organizations with qualifying fleets or data usage. On these plans, data usage rates vary per network, per profile. Data usage is charged based on where your devices are located and the network they are connected to. NLB can offer better rates for usage on preferred networks.

What are the monthly recurring charges for data plans?

The monthly recurring charge (MRC) for a data plan includes the maintenance and support costs for your SIMs to continue to connect to the Hologram network, the cost of installed profiles, and the cost of prepaid data (if applicable). This charge is billed monthly on a 30-day cycle for self-service organizations and monthly on the 1st day of the month for organizations with invoiced billing. Tiered pricing for MRCs is available to qualifying organizations with large fleets. Qualifying organizations can also gain access to zero-data rates. These plans offer discounted monthly recurring charges for SIMs that don’t use any data in a billing period.

How is coverage determined?

Coverage for a data plan is determined by the profiles installed on the SIM, and the data plan the SIM has been assigned to. You can look up coverage for a specific SIM or data plan using the coverage explorer.
