How does network-level billing work?
Variable rates based on network usage
With network-level billing, each data session is billed at the rate for the specific network your SIM used. The network is identified using a Universal Network Code (UNC), which uniquely identifies each carrier network a SIM can connect to through its installed connectivity profiles. Your available data usage rates are determined by rate cards, which are defined in your Order Form.- Custom negotiated rates — Specific rates agreed upon in your contract for certain networks.
- Standard rates — Hologram’s standard rates that apply to networks not covered by your custom rates.
Universal Network Codes (UNCs)
A Universal Network Code (UNC) is Hologram’s unique identifier for each cellular network available through Hologram. When your device connects and transmits data, the UNC determines which rate applies to that session. Each UNC maps to a specific network, determined by its profile, region, country, TADIG, MCC, and MNC. If we receive partial network information from a carrier partner, we use a generic UNC as a fallback to ensure your data session is always properly rated. How do data plans work with network-level billing?
- Data plans determine coverage areas — Each data plan defines which networks are available to your SIMs based on its installed profiles.
- Rates are organization-wide — All SIMs in your organization use the same rate card regardless of which data plan they’re assigned to.
- Monthly recurring charge (MRC) are organization-wide — All SIMs are billed using a single MRC per SIM per month.
- Pay-as-you-go only — Network-level billing operates on a pay-as-you-go basis without included data bundles or data pools
Note: Organizations with custom billing solutions may have access to different pricing or rate card structures.
How is network-level billing invoiced?
Network-level billing customers are billed on a monthly postpaid basis:- Invoices are generated at the end of each month and include all data usage and monthly recurring charges.
- Data usage is metered and charged based on the calendar month.
- Monthly recurring charges are billed for all SIMs active at the end of the month
- Invoices and statements are available in the Billing section of your dashboard.
Note: Data usage limits are enforced based on each SIM’s individual 30-day billing cycle, while invoicing occurs monthly.
How can I view rates and coverage?

- The Pricing tab shows “Rates vary by network” with a link to view detailed coverage
- The Coverage tab displays all available networks and rates based on your SIM’s installed profiles and assigned data plan in the Coverage Explorer.
For a data plan
Note: Data plan coverage is displayed for all profiles supported by the data plan. When checking coverage, make sure to select coverage for the profiles that apply to the specific SIMs you are referencing.
- Data usage rates for a data plan show as “Rates vary by network”
- The Coverage tab on data plan details pages shows all networks and rates available through that plan in Coverage Explorer.
- When activating SIMs or changing data plans, you can view the coverage and rates for a data plan in Coverage Explorer.
