What does pausing a SIM do?

Pause a SIM’s data usage to temporarily disable all connectivity for your device through the SIM. The SIM will not be able to send or receive SMS, or connect to the internet. This may be useful if you expect a device to be inactive for a period of time and want to ensure you aren’t charged for any data usage. When you or another user pauses a SIM’s data usage:
  • The SIM stops passing data immediately, closing any open data sessions.
  • The SIM enters a Paused status.
  • Monthly recurring charges (MRCs) still apply to retain access to the Hologram network.
  • The SIM remains activated and can be resumed at any time.
  • You cannot change the SIM’s data plan.
Note: SIMs paused by Hologram will show a Paused by system status (PAUSED-SYS state). This most often occurs after running out of funds in your account balance. After you add funds to your account balance, it will automatically resume. These SIMs cannot otherwise be manually resumed.
When you resume a SIM’s data usage:
  • Resuming a SIM from a Paused usually takes under a minute, but can take up to 10 minutes to complete and timing may vary across profiles.
  • The SIM can again freely pass data based on its data plan.
  • The SIM remains activated and can be paused at any time.

How are paused SIMs charged?

Monthly recurring charges (MRCs) still apply to retain access to the Hologram network. There are no additional charges or fees to resume usage. There are no prorated discounts, changes to billing cycles, or other special cost considerations for paused SIMs. If you have access to zero-data rates, then zero-data discounts or charges are applied for each SIM that did not pass data during a billing cycle at the end of that billing cycle.

How to pause or resume a single SIM

  1. Open a SIM from the SIMs pages or using global search.
  2. Click the Manage SIM menu at the top of the page.
  3. Choose Pause data usage or Resume data usage.
  4. Confirm your selection.

How to pause or resume SIMs in bulk

  1. Navigate to the SIMs page in your dashboard.
  2. Use filters to find and select the SIMs you want to modify.
  3. Click the Manage SIMs menu at the top of the list and choose Pause data usage or Resume data usage.
  4. Confirm your selection.

Are there any special considerations for paused SIMs?

Note: USA-2 profiles can be paused for a maximum of 90 consecutive days and a maximum of 180 days per calendar year.

Viewing a record of pause and resume actions

You can view a record of all pause and resume actions taken on your SIMs in the Activity history page in the SIMs section of your dashboard.
  1. Navigate to the SIMs section in your dashboard and open the Activity history page.
  2. View the record of user-initiated pause and resume actions taken on your SIMs in the Bulk actions card.
